Bryan Hulbert – MASON CITY, Iowa (August 1, 2018) Pretty much untouchable on the way to his ninth win of the 2018 season, Sam Hafertepe, Jr. topped the Lucas Oil American Sprint Car Series presented by Sawblade.com on Sunday night following a hard night with the Arctic Cat All Star Circuit of Champions at Knoxville Raceway on Saturday.

Ending up with a 20th place finish at Knoxville Raceway after a fast start to the night, Sam’s finish was in a lot of ways out of his hands as contact from another driver in the later stages of the race sent the No. 15h spinning.

“We got aggressive on our right rear air pressure so that, along with the dirty air, I really felt like we had about a 12th place car, unfortunately, we got drove into so that's what really set us back. With the 410cid, the speeds are higher so the dirty air is a lot more prevalent. We were good early, just need to work on the car later in the night, but we feel good about what we have for the 410 Nationals,” stated Sam of the Knoxville show.

Shifting gears to Mason City Motor Speedway the following night, a high draw didn’t stop Sam from moving forward. Running ninth to fourth in his Heat Race, the move put the Heidbreder Foundation No. 15h in the redraw where Sam drew the pole position. Taking off from the field, Sam led flag to flag at the Iowa half-mile.

“The car was good at Mason City and being so much faster than everyone else like we were made us feel really good because we were trying a bunch of different things for the 360 Nationals. I feel like this year, we probably have our shot at winning at Knoxville just with where we are with the car.”
