Hafertepe Ready For Canadian Sprint Car Nationals Following Ninth Victory Of The Season

Bryan Hulbert - OHSWEKEN, Ont. (September 9, 2019) Getting laps at Ohsweken Speedway before taking on the 15th annual Canadian Sprint Car Nationals this past Friday night, Sam Hafertepe, Jr. dominated the 20-lap feature event for his ninth overall victory of the 2019 season.
Getting the pole for the A-Feature, Sam led flag-to-flag for his sixth career win at Ohsweken Speedway. Under caution once on Lap 8, the reminder of the race saw Sam open his advantage to well over a straightaway.
“We were pretty good early. We just kind of riding around until we had a caution with 12 laps to go and after that I ramped it up and took off. It was only a 20-lap race and we ended up winning by close to five seconds, but we had a really good car. Some of the stuff we tried a Lake Ozark Speedway and it well for us. Overall it was a good test for this weekend,” stated Hafertepe. “I do have to thank Bobby [Craft]. He’s my only crew guy up here so he’s had a lot to take care of.”
Setting sights on this weekend, Sam will look to add a second Canadian Sprint Car Nationals Title to his résumé. Topping the event in 2011, Hafertepe feels good about his chances of claiming a second title.
“We feel good. There’s going to be some drivers coming up that roll really good here, especially in the slick and that’s probably the kind of track we’re going to get. It’s a different kind of slick up there so it takes a little different strategy, but after this past Friday, we feel confident that our car will be top notch. Just hope we qualify well and get ourselves setup right for the Feature.”
The 15th annual Canadian Sprint Car Nationals opens with a Test and Tune on Thursday, September 12 with the event taking place Friday, September 13 and Saturday, September 14 with both nights going green at 7:30 P.M. (ET).
