The history of Hoosier Tire is one of an American Dream come true for two young, Indiana entrepreneurs who turned a personal vision into a reality. Bob and Joyce Newton after winning the South Bend track championship in 1952 It all began back in the early 50's when Robert "Bob" Newton, along with his supportive wife Joyce, began a successful racing career on the small asphalt tracks of northern Indiana. Bob, like many of his fellow drivers, was not satisfied with driving on street tires with their limited sizing options and uniformly hard tread compounds. It was during these early days of "eating bologna sandwiches and sleeping on a creeper under his racer" that Bob had a vision to produce his own tires specifically designed for racing. Hoosier's 1st "factory" where re-caps were produced So, in 1957, Bob and Joyce decided to begin producing their own race tires by re-treading street tires with softer compounds. They began their business in an old abandoned horse barn in South Bend, Indiana, selling their tires to local racers. The "Hoosier" name was chosen for their company to reflect the origin of Bob's racing roots on the short tracks of the Midwest. The company color of purple came from Bob's #4 race car.

Since the start in 2000, Wings Unlimiited has risen to the task of proving that we have the best product available. Over the years, we have not only proven ourselves locally, but also on a national level. Penske Racing Shocks (PRS) was formed in 1988 when the need for a higher performing shock absorber was identified by the Penske Racing Indy Car team. A small design office was established in Reading, Pennsylvania to produce high-quality 4-way adjustable dampers. Based on the success of Penske Racing, others noticed the competitive edge they enjoyed from a properly handling racecar and made inquiries about the shock absorbers. Eventually, PRS began to supply shocks to other Indy Car teams, as well as move into the F1 market. As word spread about the performance, quality, and response of a Penske Racing Shock, more and more teams acquired the product. PRS quickly moved into many more racing sanctions including multiple sports car and open wheel series and in many instances, our products were original equipment from the chassis manufacturers. PRS penetrated NASCAR when the need for a higher performing damper was required to accommodate increasing car speeds. Extensive work to enter the NASCAR market paid off in 1990 with the first Daytona 500 win. Since that point, PRS has enjoyed increasing market share in NASCAR in all the various premier series and have been the exclusive rear shock supplier for Super Speedway events since 2000.
