Hafertepe Gains Speed Through All-Star Thunder Through The Plains

Bryan Hulbert – SUNNYVALE, Texas (June 18, 2020) Taking on the Ollies Bargain Outlet All Star Circuit of Champions presented by Mobil 1 during their Thunder Through the Plains Tour, Sam Hafertepe, Jr. garnered four top-ten finishes during the series’ eight race run through Kansas, Louisiana, Oklahoma, and Texas.

Overall, Hafertepe’s best finish came on June 10 at the Devil’s Bowl Speedway with a sixth-place showing.

“We’re still working on getting the car balanced, so to have that many races in a row was beneficial to learning what the car needs. Everything we did with ASCS doesn’t correlate to the 410, so we’ve had to change our whole program around,” commented Sam.

“Some nights we see a lot of improvement and other nights we go back the other way and really, the last two races at Lonestar and Chatham, I feel like we really had something to work off of.”

A rough start at Meeker’s Red Dirt Raceway on June 5 after events at Lawton Speedway night before was rained out, Mother Nature intervened again the following night at Outlaw Motor Speedway. Bouncing back with a seventh-place finish at 81-Speedway on June 7.

A rough night at the rescheduled Lawton Speedway event on June 8, the wind got the best of the series the following night when events at Outlaw Motor Speedway were set to be contested. Moving to the Devil’s Bowl Speedway on June 10, the Hills Racing No. 15h was towards the front all night with the A-Feature resulting in a sixth-place finish.

Placing 13th at Southern Oklahoma Speedway after having to make a trip to the work area during the A-Feature, Lone Star Speedway on June 13 and Chatham Speedway on June 14 both saw eighth-place runs.

Looking to this weekend, the Hills Racing/Heidbreder Foundation No. 15h will venture to Tri-State Speedway in Haubstadt, Ind. on Friday, June 19, and Saturday, June 20 with the World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series. Both nights will be shown live on http://www.dirtvision.com for fans who cannot be in attendance.

The team is still looking for another crew member. Inquiries can be made to sammy15@sbcglobal.net.
